Bulabog Putian Iloilo

Iloilo Philippines is one of the places I've wanted to visit since I was in college. I've heard alot of great spots and things to do there. Having known friends who were from there or those who already visited the area enticed me to put it in my bucket list. Early this year I had a chance to take a glimpse of a part of Iloilo, Bulabog Putian. Trekker, traveler and discoverer for almost a decade, I decided to have a sneak peak of the hidden park.

With the help of the the Department of Tourism of Dingle.Iloilo, I was able to find a place to stay and get the chance to trek the mountain. I asked the locals about the caves and they told me that the name "bulabog putian"was derived from being "disturbed" (bulabog) because of its numerous caves used to be the refuge during the war days and because the of the color of the rocks which is mostly likely white (putian).

Bulabog Putian houses numerous caves from small ones to almost as big a cathedral where some pilgrimage visits during holy week. I visit 4 only due to time restriction but those caves are just enough for me to say that it's one of the places I can recommend to those who has gone cavig in sagada and other commercialized caves in the country.

I stopped over first in Moroboro Spring, the guest house where I stayed and left my excess stuff, before I took my first steps. From there, I thought I can take a walk going to the foot of the mountain but nnnooo... lol. take a tricycle instead and tell the driver to take you to bulabog Putian.
Since it's a Nature Park, there's a DENR desk where you can hire a guide and get a quick orientation about the place. They people of there are also friendly and they made me try the fresh water from the mountain and oh gosh, it tastes good. The time I went there I met a father and son duo who joined me in the trek and our guide kuya Orlan gave us alot of information along the way and oh he takes great photos. trust me lol.

Along the way, you will be mesmerized by the tallest and oldest trees and get energized by the fresh air you breath while you walk. The mountain is also the home of a lot of faura and fuana that will thrill your eyes and make you smile :)

How to go to Bulabog Putian?

You can take a domestic flight to Roxas or Iloilo then take a bus ride going to Dingle. In my case, I experienced in taking a roro. Ceres bus terminal in pasay have trips going there for approximately 1500php. It's almost a 20 hour trip. Bus travels to Batangas port (1st stop over), then the bus will taken to mindoro then to caticlan then to iloilo. You will enjoy the view of the ocean along the way and if you have sea or motion sickness, try to take meds first because the waters might cradle the ferry very well.

Drop off in Dingle where you can see a tricycle terminal and a basketball court in the corners of the street. You can take a tricycle ride from there to a terminal of tricyles again that will take you to bulabog putian.(fare vaies from number of pax and destination).

Where to stay?

As reccomended, i stayed in a nice homey place near the park, fan room was 500 per night but its really big and can fit alot of guests. Though its still under renovation they can acomodate you in your stay. The owner and his son and his wife are very friendly and they will treat you like friends who visited their humble abode.

As a solo traveler, Bulabog Putian is highly recommended to those who wish to see more than the usual caves and for those who wants to trek areas that hasn't been fully commercialized. Though the trail might be rocky for some, it's good for newbies and first timers in hiking. The people are very friendly and for those who's into solo backpacking its a good morning hike before you take the night life or beach bumming in other places in Iloilo. Special thanks to the people I met during the trip! God bless!
